Mika Tan was born on November 27, 1977 in Honolulu, Hawaii, and given the name Saraswati Miyoko Kop Taetafa. She grew up in a culturally diverse family with a Japanese‑Samoan father and a Taiwanese‑Okinawan mother. Her grandmother played a large role in raising her, and through her Mika was exposed to performance arts early on, including traditional Hawaiian dance and singing. As a child she spent time modeling for clothing catalogs and appeared in commercials and stage productions, building confidence in front of the camera and on stage.
Before entering the adult entertainment industry, Mika pursued academic interests seriously. She attended San Diego State University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and an Associate degree in Psychology. During this time she supported herself partly through modeling work, including nude modeling and performances that appeared on television. Her background in science and psychology gave her a grounded perspective on performance, stress, and career choices, which later influenced how she approached professional challenges.
Mika’s entry into adult film began in 1999 when she was discovered by director Jack Pearl. At first she saw the work as a way to leverage her performance skills, but she also found the early experiences difficult and challenging, later describing the initial period as one of the hardest in her life. Despite this, she continued to build her career and found her niche in fetish work as well as mainstream adult films. Over the years she developed a reputation for intensity and professionalism in her performances.
Throughout her time in the industry Mika appeared in hundreds of films, distinguishing herself with her willingness to explore a range of roles. Although many fans and colleagues regarded her as a prominent adult performer, she often insisted that she saw herself primarily as a model within the fetish and performance niche rather than just an adult film star. Her work included both conventional scenes and more specialized productions, and she worked with a variety of studios and performers.
